19 of Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden title for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.

The athlete, a former world number one, has had a torrid period, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in specific - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually separating with former trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden trophy after the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt since March of the previous year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has achieved 21 victories at 21 different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters together, so to win a trophy is really nice," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six championship matches, comprising in the German tournament earlier this year.

His counter-punching play style and frequent reactions on the playing surface had prompted commentators to doubt if his skill to compete at the top level was over.

However the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to advance forward and compete assertively, backed up by an improved serve.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, winning 4 of the final five points to go ahead.

The pair exchanged break points in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his first professional championship, gained dominance to create a final set.

Moutet defended 4 initial break points in a tight final set before the champion broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, Medvedev secured victory with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman failing to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
